A 65-year-old man from McAllen died late Sunday after losing control of his motorcycle on I-37 near State Highway 97 in Atascosa County, Texas, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports.
The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m., and the victim — identified as Robert Early James — was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound lanes of I-37 were closed for several hours while authorities investigated and cleared the wreckage.
Drivers were advised to expect delays and to drive cautiously in the area as traffic resumes.
The DPS continues to investigate the exact cause of the accident and whether speed or road conditions played a role.
